WHERE WE ARE LOCATED
The Hotel Commodore overlooks the Basilica of St. Mary Major on the Esquiline
Hill in Monti, one of the city’s liveliest and most characteristic districts,
a strategic location for artistic and cultural itineraries to basilicas, churches,
monuments and museums.
A short walk will take you to the Basilica of Santa Prassede with its splendid
mosaics, the Basilica of San Martino ai Monti and the nearby archaeological complex.
Moving on to the Colle Oppio hill we come to the church of St Peter in Chains
with St. Peter’s chains and Michelangelo’s famous statue of Moses.
Or you can decided to stroll to the area of Imperial Rome visiting Flavio’s amphitheatre
which is better known as the Coliseum and the Imperial Forums, which is the world’s
largest area of excavations and where the great Roman civilisation developed.
Then on to Nero’s Domus Aurea to admire the Nympheum of Ulisse and Polyphemus,
the Golden Vault Room and the Octagonal rooms.
The hotel’s location is also ideal logistically speaking as it is just a short
walk away from the central railway station which is the starting point for the
main bus and underground services as well as the terminus for Fiumicino airport.
The station is an interesting blend of 1930s and 1950s architectural styles which
have been adapted to modern needs and it has many shops.
Just a short walk from the station we come to the famous Piazza della Repubblica
square with Diocletian’s Baths, the magnificent Naiadi fountain and the Basilica
of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.
The Via Nazionale leads off the square and on this street you can find the Palazzo
delle Esposizioni which is an important gallery for artistic and cultural events
such as cinema festivals, photographic exhibitions, music and book launches.
